Conversations

Conversations is sometimes serious and sometimes humorous, but always informative. Host Dan Skinner shares interviews with writers about recent works of fiction and non-fiction, featuring internationally known best-selling authors as well as new voices in literature. Conversations also shares updates on the area art scene through discussions about upcoming performances and exhibits. 

Conversations: Ben Oliver, "The Loop"

On this edition of Conversations, Ben Oliver talks with host Dan Skinner about “The Loop,” his first full-length Young Adult novel. Oliver grew up in Scotland and attended the University of Stirling but spent most of his time trying to write a novel. "The Loop" is the first novel in a trilogy. The book has also been optioned for a television series.


Conversations: Sarah Urist Green, "You are an Artist: Assignments to Spark Creation"

On this edition of Conversations, Sarah Urist Green talks with host Dan Skinner about her book, “You are an Artist: Assignments to Spark Creation.” Urist Green is the creator, curator, and host of “The Art Assignment,” an educational video series produced in partnership with PBS Digital Studios that focuses on the creative process and the act of making. She is also the former curator of contemporary art at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.

On this edition of Conversations, Joe Yogerst talks with host Dan Skinner about “100 Drives, 5,000 Ideas: Where to Go, When to Go, What to Do, What to See." An editor, writer and photographer for three decades, Joe Yogerst's writing has appeared in 36 National Geographic books, including the bestselling “50 States, 5,000 Ideas” and “100 Parks, 5,000 Ideas.” 


 

Conversations: Augustine Sedgewick, "Coffeeland: One Man's Dark Empire and the Making of Our Favorite Drug"

On this edition of Conversations, Augustine Sedgewick talks with host Dan Skinner about “Coffeeland: One Man’s Dark Empire and the Making of Our Favorite Drug.” Sedgewick earned his doctorate at Harvard University and teaches history and American Studies at the City University of New York. He researches on the global history of work, commodities and capitalism.

On this edition of Conversations, Anna Mae Duane talks with host Dan Skinner about her book, “Educated for Freedom: The Incredible Story of Two Fugitive Schoolboys Who Grew Up to Change a Nation.” Duane is Associate Professor of English and director of the American Studies Program at the University of Connecticut.
