Conversations is sometimes serious and sometimes humorous, but always informative. Host Dan Skinner shares interviews with writers about recent works of fiction and non-fiction, featuring internationally known best-selling authors as well as new voices in literature. Conversations also shares updates on the area art scene through discussions about upcoming performances and exhibits. 

Conversations: Brad Meltzer, "I Am Harriet Tubman"

What is a hero? Well, it's not people who are famous for being famous. Bestselling author Brad Meltzer created a series of children's books because he wanted to provide inspiring role models for his children. On this edition of Conversations, Meltzer joins us to talk about his Ordinary People Change the World series, which is designed for 4-8 year olds. The latest book in the series is I Am Harriet Tubman.


 

Conversations: Brendan Wiley, Topeka Zoo & Camp Cowabunga

On this edition of Conversations, I talk with Brendan Wiley, Director of the Topeka Zoo and Conservation Center. He joins us to talk about the history of the zoo, current exhibits and their new addition, Camp Cowabunga. The zoo is working on finishing the fundraising for Camp Cowabunga and hopes to open the new area to the public this Fall.


Conversations: David Baldacci, "The Fallen"

David Baldacci is a #1-bestselling author with over 130 million copies of his books in print. On this edition of Conversations, he talks about his latest novel, The Fallen, the fourth in a series which features the character Amos Decker, an FBI agent with a perfect memory. He also discusses his literacy efforts through his Wish You Well Foundation.


 

Conversations: Shannon Reilly, Topeka Civic Theatre, "King Lear"

On this edition of Conversations, Artistic Director Shannon Reilly joins us to talk about the Topeka Civic Theatre's Mainstage production of Shakespeare's "King Lear." This production sets the classic story of King Lear in Edwardian times. Reilly says putting the play in a different time frame brings a new perspective to the work. The production runs April 20th through May 5th.


Conversations: Hector Macdonald, "Truth: How the Many Sides to Every Story Shape Our Reality"

In a world of fake news and alternative facts, how can we know the truth? On this edition of Conversations, I’ll talk with Hector Macdonald, a strategic communications consultant who has worked with some of the world’s top corporations. He joins us to discuss some of the insights he shares in his latest book, Truth: How the Many Sides to Every Story Shape Our Reality.


 

Conversations: Veera Hiranandani, "The Night Diary"

Set in 1947,The Night Diary tells the story of India's partition, a division that spawned xenophobia and caused the largest human migration in history. On this edition of Conversations, Veera Hiranandani joins us to talk about her book for young readers and how she presents this story through the diary entries of a twelve-year-old girl named Nisha.


Conversations: Piet Knetsch, Theatre Lawrence, " The Glass Menagerie"

On this edition of Conversations, Piet Knetsch joins us to talk about "The Glass Menagerie." Knetsch, who directs the Theatre Lawrence production, discusses the play, the cast and the set design. "The Glass Menagerie" opens on April 20th and runs through April 29th at Theatre Lawrence.


Conversations: John Hart, "The Hush"

John Hart is the author of five New York Times bestsellers. His past books include The King of Lies, Down River, The Last Child, Iron Horse, and Redemption Road. On this edition of Conversations, he discusses his latest novel, which returns to the world of The Last Child novel. This one is called The Hush, which is now available as an audio book. Although it revisits characters from a previous novel, it was written to stand alone.
