KU Aerospace Engineering Students Dominate International Design Competition

KU aerospace engineering students won three First Place awards at an international aerospace design competition sponsored by the AIAA. It's the first time any school has captured all three top honors in any single competition. This is a photo of an award-winning business jet, designed by one of KU's teams.

When it comes to winning prestigious awards, aerospace engineering students at the University of Kansas have broken new ground. Never before in the history of international aerospace design competitions has one school so dominated the worldwide competition like KU. KPR's J. Schafer reports.

KU Aerospace Students Set Another Record, Capture 3 Top Awards

Aerospace engineering students at the University of Kansas have done something that's never been done before. They captured three First Place awards at the International Aerospace Design Competitions. The worldwide contest is sponsored by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, or the A-I-Double-A. KU Professor Ron Barrett-Gonzalez says his students took top honors in three categories: jet engine design, spacecraft design and aircraft design.

This year, two dozen students from the KU Schools of Engineering and Architecture joined forces to take home the top honors, beating out competition from around the world.
