Advocates Urge Advance of Kansas Medicaid Expansion Bill

Building on their victory in the House, supporters of Medicaid expansion in Kansas are now urging a Senate committee to advance the measure. In testimony today (MON) they attempted to address lawmakers’ lingering concerns about the cost of covering an additional 150,000 low-income Kansans. Former Senate President Dave Kerr says expansion will more than pay for itself.

Kerr says increased federal funding and savings generated by expansion would allow the state to cover its costs and have about $70 million to spend on other priorities. The Senate Public Health and Welfare Committee will hear from expansion opponents Tuesday and could vote on the bill by Thursday.
