Remember the Road Runner cartoon? In nearly every episode, Wile E. Coyote would devise some elaborate method for killing the bird... and his plan would invariably fail. The Road Runner was resilient. But as Commentator Rex Buchanan tells us, in the real world, it's the coyote who gets high marks for resiliency.
Commentator Rex Buchanan recently retired as director of the Kansas Geological Survey at the University of Kansas. He's now director emeritus.
The book mentioned in this essay is titled Coyote America, by historian Dan Flores.
