This week's KPR Presents features former U.S. Poet Laureate and Pulitzer Prize-winner Ted Kooser, from a reading sponsored by the University of Kansas Libraries. We'll also hear the collaborative efforts of Kansas Poet Laureate Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg and singer-songwriter Kelley Hunt, in a reading performed at the Lawrence Public Library.

National Teachers Hall of Fame   Date: June 14, 2005
   Kansans have been having some heated discussions lately about public education. First, it was what should be taught in science classrooms, and more recently, how much money should be spent on education. But there is little disagreement over the value of education, both to the student and to society. Commentator John Richard Schrock says an upcoming ceremony in Emporia should remind us all that education begins with teachers.

   Commentator John Richard Schrock is a professor of biology education, and Chair of the Biology Department at Emporia State University. The National Teachers Hall of Fame will hold its annual induction ceremonies beginning Thursday in Emporia.
