KU Literacy Project Lands Federal Grant   Date: May 16, 2008
The University of Kansas has been selected for a major federal grant to conduct research to improve the learning skills of pre-school children in inner-city neighborhoods. The Department of Education will provide $10 million to KU's Juniper Garden Children's Project in Kansas City, Kansas. Professor Judith Carta (CAR-tuh) says researchers will develop methods to monitor and teach disadvantaged children before they enter the school system.
