Topeka Native Wins PGA Tour Event

While the Kansas Jayhawks were on the verge of advancing to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA basketball tournament, Gary Woodland was busy excelling at another sport. He's a Topeka native now playing professional golf on the PGA Tour. Yesterday (SUN), he won his first event. Woodland collected a check for 990-thousand dollars for winning the Transitions Championship in Palm Harbor, Florida.

Woodland played basketball at Washburn University before transferring to KU to play golf. He has now qualified to play in the Masters Tournament next month in Augusta, Georgia.

Busy Post-Season On Tap For Kansas Schools

Both Kansas teams in the Big 12 Conference now know their destination and opponents in the NCAA Men's Basketball tournament. And Wichita State will be in the post-season, too. Kansas Public Radio's Greg Echlin has more.

In NCAA Division II play, the Washburn men's and women's teams were both eliminated over the weekend in the South Central regional.

Lawrence Food Pantry Must Raise $100k or Face Closure

Time is running out for the largest food bank in Lawrence. The food program and pantry -- known as "Just Food" -- is on the brink of closing, unless it can raise a lot of money -- and soon. Supporters of "Just Food" are working to raise $100,000 in less than 60 days. KPR news intern Justine Greve (GREEVE) reports.

Officials with Just Food said earlier today (THUR) that they've now reached 39-percent -- or $39,000 -- of their fundraising goal.

Jayhawks Reach 30-Win Plateau

For the fourth time in the last five seasons, the University of Kansas basketball team reached the 30-victory mark. In the quarterfinals of the Big 12 tournament this (THUR) afternoon, the Jayhawks squeaked by Oklahoma State, 63 to 62. Jayhawk fans held their breath in the final seconds when Oklahoma State had the ball. Even Bill Self admitted he felt a little anxiety.

Oklahoma State's last shot was off-target, so KU advances to play the Colorado Buffaloes in the tournament semifinals. Colorado defeated the K-State Wildcats this (THUR) afternoon by a score of 87 to 75.

Naming Rights Announced for Soccer Stadium

Sporting Club Kansas City, formerly known as the Kansas City Wizards, announced the naming rights for its new soccer stadium set to open later this year in Kansas City, Kansas. It will be associated with Livestrong, the foundation created in 1997 by former Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong. Its new name is Livestrong Sporting Park. Armstrong admitted he was caught off-guard when approached by Livestrong CEO Doug Ulman about naming rights to a soccer venue.

It was termed a multi-year deal between the foundation and Sporting Club Kansas City. Financial figures were not disclosed.
