Atrium String Quartet

In The Plains Chamber Festival 2015

The In The Plains Chamber Festival is a week-long summer program for young students of Chamber music.  The faculty for the program is comprised of fine musicians from all over the country who come to work with the students.  Each summer, they give concerts.  You can get info about the student and faculty concerts here.  A trio of faculty came to KPR's studio today and performed among other things Paul Schoenfield's Cafe Music.  Click on listen to enjoy the music of violinist Philip Marten, cellist Samuel Cho and pianist Kaisaer Ainiwaer.

Kansas City Chamber Orchestra/Park University - Vivaldi's Four Seasons

The Kansas City Chamber Orchestra and 4 amazing violinists with roots at the International Center for Music at Park University will be performing Vivaldi's Four Seasons Friday night at Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral in Kansas City at 8PM.  The violinists came to KPR today to give a preview of the concert along with pianist Lolita Lisovskaya-Sayevich and cellist Lawrence Figg.  Click on listen to hear performances by Maria Ioudenich, Cristian Fatu (pictured), Laurel Gagnon, and the concertmaster of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, David Radzynski.

Alex Klein, oboe

The world-renowned Brazilian oboist Alex Klein is in the area for the Sunflower Music Festival in Topeka.  Alex came to KPR's studios to talk about the festival, his career and his love of oboe music and passages in orchestral works.  Alex treated us to a few oboe samples intertwined in the conversation with Mark Edwards.  Click on listen to enjoy this conversation on-demand.

Kansas City Symphony String Trio

The next Kansas City Symphony Happy Hour Concert at Helzberg Hall is Tuesday, May 12th at 6PM.  The String Trio that will be in performance at the event came to KPR's studio today and gave us great performances of the Aria from Bach's Goldberg Variations and Mark O'Connor's Appalachia Waltz.  Click on listen to enjoy the music featuring violinist Tony Demarco, cellist Susie Yang and violist Christine Grossman.

Motet Singers of Lawrence

The Motet Singers of Lawrence held a rehearsal at KPR's studios recently.  We recorded the evening, and have selected 3 songs to share with you: My Spirit Sang All Day by Gerald Finzi, a setting of the Russian Cherubic Hymn, and Stephen Foster's The Glendy Burke.  These songs are on the program for the Motet Singers concert Sunday, May 10th, 3PM at First United Methodist Church on Vermont St. in Lawrence.  Click on "Listen," and enjoy the preview!

Kelly Bohling, violin & Sean Mawhirter, guitar

Kelly Bohling, violinist with the Dahlia Trio and guitarist Sean Mawhirter came to KPR's Performance Studio today to give us a taste of an upcoming concert April 19th at 3 PM at the Lawrence Arts Center.  The program will feature modern music.  We heard two samples from the program this morning:  The Villa-Lobos Bachianas Brasilieras No. 5 aria and Piazzolla's Oblivion.  Click on Listen, and enjoy!

Trio Affettuoso

The Trio Affettuoso will be heading to the 7th Plowman Chamber Music Competition in Columbia, MO this weekend.  The ensemble came to KPR's studios today with their coach from the KU School of Music, Scott McBride-Smith, and performed the Brahms Trio for Clarinet, Cello and Piano, Op. 114, and the final two movements of Beethoven's "Gassenhauer" trio, Op. 11.  Their performance was great!  Click on "Listen" to enjoy Sunnat Ibragimov, cello; Teng Fu, piano; Puyin Bai, clarinet.
