Harpist Yolanda Kondonassis interview

Yolanda Kondonassis is at the pinnacle of the classical harp world. She appears on a new album she co-produced, Ginastera One Hundred, featuring the harp concerto of the Argentine composer Alberto Ginastera in this centennial year of his birth. Violinist Gil Shaham, pianist Orli Shaham, and guitarist Jason Vieaux are also on the album. Kondonassis talks with Michael Keelan about the composer, and music being written for the harp.

Erin Wood Harp Duo October 27, 2016

Harpists Erin Wood, of the KU faculty, and Tabitha Steiner, of the Topeka and Kansas City Symphonies, visited the KPR studio to play in advance of KC Harp Days. Steiner played Handel's Harmonious Blacksmith Variations, followed by Wood with Gabriel Pierné's Impromptu Caprice. Together, they finished with Parvis, by Bernard Andrès.

Ensemble Iberica October 6th, 2016

Ensemble Iberica founder Beau Bledsoe stopped by the KPR studios along with a first-time guest, Michael McClintock. They play two different guitars, as they discussed with Michael Keelan. Joshua Bell interview with Michael Keelan

Violinist Joshua Bell is one of the best-known names in classical music. This month he releases an album with cellist Steven Isserlis, titled For the Love of Brahms. It contains the Brahms Double Concerto, Schumann violin concerto slow movement (in an arrangement by Benjamin Britten), and Brahms's original version of his first piano trio. Michael Keelan talks with Bell about the album.

Kansas City Chamber Orchestra August 25, 2016

The Kansas City Chamber Orchestra opened its 30th season Aug. 27 at the Kauffman Center, and Park University's International Center for Music supplies the soloists. Faculty members Ben Sayevich, Lolita Lisovskaya-Sayevich, and Daniel Veis will solo in the Beethoven Triple Concerto, and played Arensky at the KPR studio. Violinist Laurel Gagnon plays Wieniawski's Polonaise Brillante, pianist Jinhong Li plays Chopin's Andante Spianato and Grande Polonaise, and cellist Dilshod Narzillaev plays Tchaikovsky's Pezzo Capriccioso.

Steven Spooner and Massimiliano Baggio August 18, 2016

This coming Sunday, Steven Spooner will play a duo recital with the Italian pianist, Massimiliano Baggio (Professor at the renowned Milan Conservatory) of gorgeous music by Brahms. The recital is free and takes place Sunday, August 21, at 7:30 p.m., in Swarthout Recital Hall.
