Lawrence Community Orchestra THE MARK OF ZORRO!

Saturday night at seven at Liberty Hall -- February 11th 2017 -- the Lawrence Community Orchestra, directed by Matt Smith, will provide live orchestral music to the silent film, starring Douglas Fairbanks -- THE MARK OF ZORRO!     Costume contest starts at 6:30pm, Zorro costumes encouraged, winner will be announced at intermission.  Tickets at the door.

Filmmaker Kiki Wilson on conductor Robert Shaw

Few conductors have inspired such a devoted following as Robert Shaw, who dominated choral conducting in the second half of the twentieth century. Kiki Wilson sang for Shaw and has made a film about him, receiving a Kansas City premiere Feb. 11 at Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral. Michael Keelan spoke with her about her experiences.

​Steven Spooner visited the KPR studios to preview his Jan. 29 concert at Grace Cathedral in Topeka. He played four Chopin mazurkas, followed by his own Concert Etude for Vladimir Horowitz, adopting a very recognizable melody in the style of the Russian virtuoso.

Composer Adam Schoenberg on his new album with the KC Symphony

Composer Adam Schoenberg has a strong relationship with the Kansas City Symphony, having honed his craft at writing for orchestra with the ensemble. The new album conducted by Michael Stern features three of Schoenberg's pieces, all of which have connections to the musicians involved. Michael Keelan talks with him about it, and the artworks which inspired two of the pieces. The premiere of Schoenberg's Symphony No. 2 is on March 18 at the Kauffman Center, with the University of Texas-Austin Wind Ensemble.
