Ensemble Kiowa

The Ensemble Kiowa recently won top ensemble in a regional championship.  This weekend, they'll be in Las Vegas for the national championships!  They came to KPR's performance studio today with their coaches from KU, Scott Smith and Michael Kirkendoll.  They amazed us with their virtuosic performances of works by Khachaturian, Nino Rota, Mozart and Guillaume Connesson.  The ensemble as pictured is:  Mandy Wang, violin; Mickayla Chapman, clarinet; Margaret Lambie, flute; and Cong Cong, piano.  Click on Listen to enjoy this performance!

Mark Edwards comes to Kansas Public Radio with over 30 years in the radio industry, having worked in markets such as Atlanta, New Orleans and Boston. While in Boston, Mark was the music and program director for WCRB, which was at the time the highest-rated commercial classical station in the country. Mark has a great passion for music. He’s a rusty pianist…and loves to sing in local choirs. You’ll find Mark at almost any local classical music concert. Originally from northern Maine, Mark studied music in Montreal, Canada and at the University of Maine. In the early 2000s, Mark lived and worked in Kansas City. "I loved the area then," comments Mark, ..."and I'm thrilled to be back and working for Kansas Public Radio, sharing the greatest music ever written with our listeners!"
