Winter Farmers Markets Are Heating Up

Across the country, the number of farmers markets being held in the wintertime has seen a 17 percent jump in the last two years, according to the U-S Department of Agriculture. As more small farmers find ways to grow produce in the winter, eager consumers are increasingly finding ways to meet their food needs with locally-grown and locally-produced items. Reporting for the Harvest Public Media project, KPR's Eric Durban has this report from Kansas City.

Eric Durban is KPR's new agriculture and agri-business reporter. His work is part of a grant-funded project called Harvest Public Media, a collaborative effort involving public radio stations in Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri. Learn more by logging on to HarvestPublicMedia.org.
