The Unlikely Beginnings of "Family Promise"

How does a successful businesswoman go from a high-powered advertising career to helping the homeless? We'll hear the story of Karen Olson, founder and president of Family Promise. Olson spoke at the University of Kansas on Oct. 3, 2013, as part of the KU School of Business Dean's Executive Lecture Series. Also on this week's show, host Kaye McIntyre will visit with University of Kansas professor John Tibbetts about his new book, Peter Weir: Interviews, in which he shares more than 20 years of conversations with the noted Australian filmmaker.

Kaye starts her weekends the same way you do: with Weekend Edition Saturday, Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, This American Life, and To the Best of Our Knowledge. She started at Kansas Public Radio in 2001; in 2006, she became the producer of our weekly public affairs program, KPR Presents. In her spare time, she loves to read, travel, and attend theater.
