Commentator Thomas Fox Averill generally appears on KPR as the character "William Jennings Bryan Oleander." But Averill is also the writer-in-residence at Washburn University and an accomplished novelist. He dropped by the Kansas Public Radio studios to talk with Laura Lorson about his latest book, which is called "A Carol Dickens Christmas." Averill says the title...of course...is a shout-out to the classic Charles Dickens story "A Christmas Carol," which has been a part of his family's holiday traditions for years.

Tom Averill spoke with KPR's Laura Lorson. His new book is called "A Carol Dickens Christmas," and is published by the University of New Mexico Press. You can attend a reading and booksigning at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute in Lawrence tonight (THUR); he'll also give a reading and signing at the Manhattan Art Center next week.

Upcoming events at which Tom Averill will read from "A Carol Dickens Christmas" include:

December 4, KU Continuing Ed/Osher, 7:00 pm, Lawrence

December 5, Southwind Gallery, 29th and Oakley, Topeka, 5:30-7:00 pm
