Some Lawmakers Question If Brownback's Education Plan Can Pass This Session

vratil johnSenator John VratilSome legislative leaders believe Governor Sam Brownback’s plan to overhaul the school finance formula won’t pass this session. Senate Vice President John Vratil, from Leawood, says he supports the governor’s plan. But he says there are not enough supporters to get the bill out of a committee in the Senate.

Vratil says an interim committee may need to continue work on the bill after the session ends. Governor Brownback says with a new lawsuit over school funding set to start this summer, taking action on the issue this session is important.

Brownback has said he believes his school finance plan will end lawsuits over education funding.
