Solar Advocates Say Regulators Overlooking Concerns at Hearing

Advocates form the state’s solar industry say they’ve been largely excluded from proceedings over Westar’s Energy’s proposal for a $152 million rate hike. So far, the Kansas Corporation Commission has not permitted any expert witnesses or testimony from solar advocates. Aron Cromwell of Cromwell Solar says the billing options offered under Westar’s proposal would increase electricity costs for the typical user of solar power. “He would actually pay more with solar panels on his home than before he installed the panels. His bill would be higher than it was before.” Cromwell said. The KCC is allowing one solar advocate partial access to its proceedings over Westar’s proposal. The commission make a final decision on the proposed rate hike in October.
