Senate Committee Amends, Then Approves Gov's Income Tax Plan

A Senate committee has approved Governor Sam Brownback’s proposal to cut income tax rates.  But the committee chose to preserve four tax credits the governor wanted to eliminate, including a credit for people who invest in Kansas companies. Senator Les Donovan, a Republican from Wichita, chairs the tax committee.

The committee also removed a cap on state spending that was included in the bill. The legislation would have capped state government spending growth at 2 percent per year. The full Senate will now consider the amended tax plan.
