Sec of State to Take Public Comments on Voter ID Rules

Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach’s office will soon take public comments on new voter ID regulations. A law taking effect in January will require voters to show a photo ID at the polls. Kobach says his office has been drafting the regulations that accompany the ID requirement, and the public will have a chance to weigh in.

The regulations will clarify what poll workers should do when faced with certain situations, such as a voter forgetting to bring ID. Critics of the law are concerned it could keep some legal voters away from the polls. Kobach, a Republican, has said the measure is needed to prevent voter fraud.
