Westmoreland Soldier Killed in Afghanistan
Wamego, Kan. (AP) Funeral services are Thursday for a 35-year-old Kansas soldier killed in Afghanistan. Army Sergeant 1st Class Forrest Warren Robertson of Westmoreland died Sunday while deployed in the Logar province of Afghanistan. The Defense Department says Robertson was killed when enemy forces attacked his unit. Robertson's funeral is set for Thursday morning at Trinity Baptist Church in Wamego.
Officials Forecast Bigger Kansas Corn, Sorghum and Soybean Harvests
Wichita, Kan. (AP) The latest government forecast anticipates that Kansas farmerswill bring in far bigger harvests of corn, sorghum and soybeans than during last year's drought. The National Agricultural Statistics Service reported Friday that this year's corn harvest in Kansas would bring in 37 percent more corn than a year ago.
Documentary on WWII Pilot Debuts in Abilene
Topeka, Kan. (AP) A Salina television producer's documentary about a World War Two airman debuts today (SUN) at the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum. Phil Black's documentary "Leo Perkins: Flying in a B-17" tells the story of Perkins, a 95-year-old veteran who flew the skies of Europe before being shot down and spending the reset of the war in a German POW camp. Perkins will be in Abilene to speak at the library.
Plane Crashes Just After Takeoff in Concordia
Concordia, Kan. (AP) No injuries were reported after a single-engine plan crash landed shortly after takeoff in northern Kansas. The Kansas Highway Patrol says the aircraft had just taken off from Blosser Municipal Airport in Concordia yesterday (SAT) morning when it crashed.
