Redistricting Process Needs Reform, Says Top Dem in KS House

Paul Davis (D-Lawrence) speaking to reporters at the Statehouse. (Photo by Stephen Koranda)With only a short time remaining in the legislative session, Kansas lawmakers have yet to finish redistricting. That’s the process of redrawing districts for members of Congress and the state Legislature. The slow progress has the top Democrat in the House calling for reform. Paul Davis, of Lawrence, is the House minority leader.

If lawmakers don’t finish by the end of next week, they’ll have to continue the process in late April when they return to Topeka for the final days of the session. The House has yet to pass a plan to redraw congressional districts, while senators have not finished a map redrawing their own districts.
