Redistricting Committee Takes Public Comments in Lawrence

A special legislative committee met in Lawrence today (FRI) to take public comments on the political redistricting process. Several speakers said lawmakers should reverse a decision from 10 years ago that split the city of Lawrence between two congressional districts. Douglas County Commissioner Mike Gaughan (“gone”).

House Speaker Mike O’Neal, a Hutchinson Republican, co-chairs the redistricting committee. He says some communities will have to be split so the congressional districts will have the same population.

Public hearings on redistricting will continue later this month with stops in Kansas City and Leavenworth.
