At least 200 real estate agents gathered at the Kansas Statehouse today (WED) to oppose part of Governor Sam Brownback’s tax proposal. The governor’s plan would eliminate two tax deductions for homeowners: one for mortgage interest and one for property taxes paid. Dwight Goodwin is a realtor based out of Overland Park. He supports some parts of the governor’s plan to scale-back income taxes, but he doesn’t want the state to eliminate the deductions for homeowners.
The Kansas Association of Realtors has proposed a compromise in which the tax deductions would be phased out over time as the state’s income tax is gradually eliminated.
