President Trump’s proposed budget makes a lot of cuts, many to relatively obscure programs. One of the targeted programs is the Essential Air Service, which subsidizes commercial airline service in rural America. Four cities in Missouri and five in Kansas receive E-A-S funds including the Hays Regional Airport. Manager Ovid Seifers (OH-vid SEE-fers) says if you eliminate E-A-S, travelers from Amarillo to Cheyenne will be hurt.
Seifers says there are 12 flights a week out of Hays to Denver, serving 83-hundred passengers a year.
