Officials are investigating the death of a 10-year-old Kansas boy on a water slide at the Schlitterbahn Waterpark in Kansas City, Kansas. The ride, called the Verruckt, has been certified by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's tallest water slide. Investigators say 10-year-old Caleb Schwab died yesterday (SUN) while riding the Verruckt at the water park. Schwab was the son of state Representative Scott Schwab. A park spokeswoman, Winter Prosapio, says the park will be closed today as the investigation continues. Prosapio says park personnel were shaken by the incident.
No specific details about what led to the boy’s death have been released. The ride will remain closed pending the outcome of the investigation. Representative Schwab and his wife released a statement thanking the community for an "outpouring of support and compassion" after their son's sudden death and asks for privacy as the family grieves.
