My Farm Roots: Immigrant Farmers from Japan

Amy Konishi has lived in Fort Collins, Colo., her entire life. In the 1980s, a local newspaper profiled her and her husband’s long connection to the area. (Luke Runyon/Harvest Public Media)It’s time for My Farm Roots, a series from Harvest Public Media in which we hear Americans’ stories and memories of rural life. Because when you hail from farm country, roots run deep. In today's installment, we hear about Amy Konishi. She started working at age six, digging ditches, planting cantaloupe and sugar beets with her parents, both Japanese immigrants. Harvest Public Media's Luke Runyon traveled to Rocky Ford, Colorado, to meet Amy Konishi, who's now almost 90 years old.
