Midwest Economic Index Shows Slow Growth in Kansas

Creighton University Economist Dr. Ernie Goss
Creighton University Economist Dr. Ernie Goss

The Mid-America Business Conditions Index for March has been released and it indicates that the economy is growing throughout most of the Midwest. However, the economic index in Kansas has slipped slightly since February's report. Creighton University Economist Ernie Goss oversees the monthly survey. He says unstable conditions in manufacturing are slowing economic growth in Kansas.

Goss says that, since the beginning of the economic recovery in 2009, the manufacturing sector in Kansas has lost almost 4,000 jobs. The rate of employment in Kansas for March was the lowest among the states surveyed in the Mid-America business index.
