Legislature Could Renew Efforts to Raise State Employee Pay

There could be renewed efforts next year to raise the pay of state employees who make less than the market average for their position. A legislative committee met today (THUR) to explore the issue. State Senator Laura Kelly, a Topeka Democrat, says she supports efforts to pay state employees at market rates. She says lawmakers will have a better idea if it’s possible after a new tax revenue estimate is released tomorrow (FRI).

In recent years, some programs aimed at raising the salaries of state employees have been delayed or defunded due to budget cuts.
