One of the winningest coaches in the nation could capture his 1,000th victory this Friday night at the University of Kansas. KU Volleyball Coach Ray Bechard (BUH-shard) has has spent his entire coaching career in Kansas and has collected 998 wins so far. KU Associate Athletics Director Jim Marchiony (MAR-shee-OH-nee) says there are several secrets to Bechard's success.

For the second year in a row, Bechard is the reigning Big 12 Coach of the Year. His 1,000th victory could come during the Jayhawk Classic tournament in Lawrence this Friday. He's just two wins away from that milestone. The 24th-ranked KU volleyball team takes on North Texas at noon and Cleveland State at 7:30 Friday night.

KU Volleyball Coach Just 2 Shy of 1,000th Win

University of Kansas Volleyball Coach Ray Bechard (BUH-shard) is closing in on his 1,000th victory. The reigning Big 12 Coach of the Year is now just two victories away from reaching that career milestone. And when he does, there likely won't be a lot of official fanfare to mark the occasion. KU Associate Athletics Director Jim Marchiony (MAR-she-OH-nee) says Bechard isn't the kind of coach who goes in for all that.

Bechard, who took the Jayhawks to their first-ever Sweet 16 last season, could rack-up his 1,000th win this Friday night in Lawrence, during the Jayhawk Classic tournament.
