A view of Union Station and the Kansas City skyline at night.  (Photo from AmericasWonderlands.com)University of Kansas Geography Professor James "Pete" Shortridge has penned a new book that explores the evolution of Kansas City.  The book describes how and why Kansas City grew into a thriving metropolis serving two states.  Commentator Rex Buchanan just read the book and says Kansas Citians can learn a lot about their city by checking it out.

Commentator Rex Buchanan is the Interim Director of the Kansas Geological Survey at the University of Kansas and a regular contributor to Kansas Public Radio.  He's also the co-author of the book "Roadside Kansas."

Jim Shortridge's book is published by University Press of Kansas.
