KU’s Best Move Was No Move in Volleyball Program

Jayhawks Volleyball Coach Ray Bechard is in his 18th season at KU and his 31st season overall. He's racked up more than 1,000 career victories, making him one of the winningest coaches in college sports.

Since he was hired in January of 2011 as the athletics boss at the University of Kansas, Sheahon Zenger (SHAY-en ZANG-er) has fired two football coaches and one women’s basketball coach. The primary reason most coaches get fired is for not winning. In Zenger’s first year on the job, the women’s volleyball program struggled and the coach was on the hot seat. But Zenger didn’t show him the door. And, as Kansas Public Radio’s Greg Echlin reports, that decision has paid off.

The 9th-ranked Kansas Jayhawks' next match is Saturday at West Virginia.
