KS Statehouse Crane Removal in Progress

The blue tower crane near the Statehouse has been a fixture in Topeka for three years. (Photo by Stephen Koranda)The Topeka skyline has been marked by two massive construction cranes in recent days. The 360-foot-tall blue tower crane used in the Statehouse renovation is being removed. Statehouse Architect Barry Greis said last week that removing the blue crane requires a second massive red crane.

The tower crane has been on the Statehouse grounds since 2010. The Topeka Capitol Journal reportsthat storms in the last week have delayed its removal. Disassembling the crane could be be mostly completed this week.
