KS Senator Suggests Travel Ban from West Africa

Kansas Republican Senator Jerry Moran is pushing for a travel ban to stop people coming from west Africa into the U.S.

While visiting the University of Kansas Hospital, Moran said he hopes a travel ban could help stop the spread of Ebola from Africa.

Moran says there aren’t currently any direct commercial flights from west Africa to the U.S.

He says a travel ban would need to be a cooperative effort between the U.S. and countries that may send people from west Africa to America.

“There needs to be an effort on the part of the United States to provide the necessary leadership with other countries to contain this circumstance, combat it there and keep it from being spread. A travel ban is a component of that,” says Moran.

A person infected with Ebola who died in Dallas had flown to the U.S. from Belgium.

Moran says there should be an exception for aid workers who travel from the U.S. to Africa to help fight Ebola. He says they need to be allowed to return home.

Moran believes other countries would assist in a travel ban, because they also have interests in containing the disease.
