He's pushing for more accountability at the Department of Veterans Affairs. The VA has been trying to improve its performance ever since reports surfaced about long wait times for veterans seeking services. Orman points to a plan for improvement implemented by the new VA Secretary, Bob McDonald.
“And I think it’s a vision that we need to hold him to and we need to make sure that Congress is disciplined in bringing that sort of accountability, and private sector accountability, to the VA.”
Orman is also proposing bridge loans for veterans while they’re on a backlog waiting for disability payments. He’s also forming a veterans advisory council. Orman is locked in a tight race with incumbent Republican Senator Pat Roberts, who served in the Marines.
