KS Secretary of State Predicts Voter Turnout

Photo by Stephen KorandaKansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach is predicting half of the state's registered voters will turnout to cast a ballot in next week's election.

Kobach says early voting totals are somewhat lower than those from the midterm election held four years ago. He attributes that to what he calls the “Royals effect.”

“One of the things that the counties reported, particularly Johnson County, is that on game days the advance voting in person tapered off rapidly after 4:00,” says Kobach.

Kobach estimates early voting will be strong in the coming days and the number of votes cast ultimately will be close to the numbers seen in 2010.

Kobach, a Republican, is himself facing a challenge from Democrat Jean Schodorf this election.
