wanda stewart_toys_KMUWWanda Stewart's three-month-old son Scott was killed by a drunk driver in 1981. (Photo by Abigail Wilson/KMUW)From now through the Labor Day holiday weekend, Kansas law enforcement will be stepping up efforts to crack-down on drunk driving. One Kansas mother is helping the effort by sharing her story. More from Abigail Wilson, of KMUW in Wichita.

According to statistics provided by KDOT, Kansas averages four persons injured every day and one person killed every three days in an alcohol-related crash.

The Lawrence Police Department and nearly 150 other Kansas law enforcement agencies are participating in the 2014 "You Drink, You Drive, You Lose" campaign now through Labor Day. Aided by a grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation, police will step-up efforts to identify drivers who are impaired by alcohol or otherwise operating their vehicles in an unsafe manner.
