The crowd in Topeka heard a rendition of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech. It was delivered by 15-year-old Dele Adegbore, a student at Topeka High School.

Brownback signed a proclamation commemorating the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington. The event took place at the Brown v. Board historic site in Topeka. Brownback recounted King's legacy and the significance of Brown v. Board in the civil rights movemement.

Brownback called King a prophet who never lived to see his dreams realized, and Brownback says the country still has work to do.
