KS Lawmakers Pass Tax Plan to Finance New Budget

In addition to the budget, the tax plan needed to fund it was a divisive issue in the final days of the session. For weeks, an unlikely coalition of moderate and conservative Republicans and Democrats in the House blocked attempts to make permanent what was supposed to be a temporary increase in the sales tax. But as Jim McLean of the KHI News Service reports, in the final hours of the final day the pressure to adjourn caused several members to change their votes.
