KS House Reverses Course and Rejects Congressional Map

Rep. Peggy Mast (Left, R-Emporia) on the House floor. (Photo by Stephen Koranda)The Kansas House has reversed course and rejected a congressional redistricting map that the chamber approved yesterday (TUE).  The plan was similar to the current congressional map, except that the 4th District around Wichita stretched southeast to the Missouri border. Representative Peggy Mast, a Republican from Emporia, was one of the authors of the plan.

Mast believes the vote changed because many House members hadn’t had a chance to speak to people in their home districts before voting on the map yesterday (TUE).  The House initially approved the plan as an alternative to one that would have put part of Wyandotte County in the “Big First” District, which covers western Kansas.
