Gym class has been on the minds of Kansas state Board of Education members. The board heard a presentation earlier this week on how Kansas currently measures up in physical education. Healthy Kansas Schools director Mark Thompson says elementary schools are required to offer phys ed...but the requirement itself doesn't have well-defined boundaries:

Thompson says the state is working to implement First Lady Michelle Obama's anti-obesity initiative in schools. Currently, Kansas ranks 18th in the nation in overall childhood obesity rates.
