Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach has been helping craft the party platform at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland. As KPR’s Stephen Koranda reports, he’s had some significant influence on the document.

The platform is a series of policy idea and goals drafted by party officials which will be presented to the full GOP convention next week.

Kobach pushed to include a provision saying the U.S. should build a wall on the full border with Mexico. At first there was talk that a wall could be something simple or even just a series of electronic sensors, but Kobach pushed for the platform to say it should be a physical wall that can stop both people and vehicles from crossing.

Kobach also weighed in on gun issues, drafting a plank that opposes bans on certain types of rifles or restrictions on the capacity of rifle magazines.
