Kevin Powell Speaks at KU on Reading, Writing and Activism

Kevin Powell was first thrust into the national spotlight as one of the housemates on the first season of the MTV reality series "The Real World." Since then, he's gone on to write for The Washington Post, Esquire, The Huffington Post, Rolling Stone and Vibe. He's also the author of a dozen books, has run for public office and become an well-known advocate for social justice. He spoke with KPR's Laura Lorson about how he became interested in justice issues, and about his latest book.

Kevin Powell is the author of The Education of Kevin Powell: A Boy’s Journey to Manhood and eleven other books. He's speaking this (WED) evening at 5 o'clock at Budig Hall on the KU campus in Lawrence. The event is being sponsored by the KU English Department’s Project on the History of Black Writing and several other organizations. The public is invited.
