KDHE: Stay Vigilant About Healthy Weight

Earlier this week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a list of the 12 states with the highest proportion of obese residents. Kansas was not among them, even though some 30% of Kansans are considered obese. Brandon Skidmore, with the state health department's Bureau of Health Promotion, says obesity is driven by nutrition and physical activity. He says that in Kansas, residents have plenty of ways to be active and eat in a healthy way.

The latest survey indicates Mississippi has the highest percentage of obese residents. Colorado has the smallest percentage.

Keeping Kansans Fit a Priority for State

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently released a list of the nation's 12 most obese states. Brandon Skidmore with the KDHE says that Kansas DIDN'T appear on THAT list... but it's important to stay alert about the dangers of obesity:

Right now, about 30% of Kansans are considered obese. That figure is slightly higher in Missouri. Health officials recommend eating less and exercising more as the best ways to prevent obesity, which can lead to heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.
