The Kansas Association of School Boards says school districts are preparing for what might not happen if schools are shut down at the end of June. The state Supreme Court recently rejected the Legislature's latest attempt to enact a school funding system. Mark Tallman, Associate Executive Director of the KASB, says a lot of activity is happening at schools throughout the summer months and districts are grappling with how to continue summer programs while preparing for the fall semester.
The Kansas Supreme Court has set a June 30 deadline for lawmakers to address the school funding problem, raising the possibility that schools could close if the date passes without further legislative action.
