Kansas: Where the Deer and the Antelope Still Play

Pronghorn Antelope (Flickr Photo by Larry Lamsa)According to the official state song, "Home on the Range," this is where the deer and the antelope play. But when's the last time YOU saw an antelope in eastern Kansas? For Commentator Rex Buchanan, it was just a few weeks ago.

Commentator Rex Buchanan is the intermin director of the Kansas Geological Survey at the University of Kansas. He's also a frequent contributor to KPR's Morning Edition.

Special thanks to Steve Adams and the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism for help with this commentary.
