Kansas Unemployment Down, Job Growth Flat

A new report shows the unemployment rate in Kansas dropped last month to under 4 percent.

The Kansas Department of Labor says the unemployment rate dropped slightly in March, but the change year-over-year was more significant. The jobless rate went from 4.3 percent in March 2015 to 3.9 percent last month.

Unemployment rates range from 3 percent in the Manhattan area to 4.5 percent in the Wichita area.

While the unemployment rate is down, the report says the total number of nonfarm jobs in Kansas is flat in the last year. Growth in some job categories was offset by losses in industries such as oil and gas production.
