Republican Kansas Senator Pat Roberts says he's offering some advice to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. As KPR’s Stephen Koranda reports, the goal is giving Trump a leg up on agriculture issues over Democrat Hillary Clinton.

Senator Roberts is chairman of the Agriculture Committee. The Kansas senator says he hasn’t personally met Trump, but he was asked to help the campaign with ag issues. Roberts has been telling them that none of the candidates who ran for president this election have talked enough about things affecting rural areas and agriculture.

“Farmers and ranchers today are very worried. Prices are very low, land values have come off. Storm clouds are there. Somebody at least ought to be standing up being a little worried about this,” says Roberts.

Roberts says he’s handed a list of issues to Trump’s campaign that he believes are important to farmers and ranchers.

Stephen Koranda is KPR's Statehouse reporter.
