Kansas Secretary of State’s Office Updates Voter Registration Information After Questions

Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach’s office has updated some information on the official state website after questions from Kansas Public Radio about inconsistencies.

The site had some inconsistent information about Kansas voter registration rules, specifically regarding thousands of people who have either registered to vote at the DMV or used the federal registration form. Court rulings say those people currently don’t have to comply with a state requirement that new voters prove their citizenship with a document such as a birth certificate.

A spokesperson for Kobach’s office, Samantha Poetter, says they updated the wording so it matched other parts of the site.

An attorney with the ACLU of Kansas, Doug Bonney, says they aren’t satisfied with the changes and will ask for further modifications.
