Kansas House Democrats Introduce Bill to Prevent State Employee Furloughs

Democrats in the Kansas House have introduced a bill that would prevent state employees from being furloughed next week. Thousands of state workers will be sent home without pay starting Sunday if the budget work drags on. Democratic Representative Jerry Henry is on the House Appropriations Committee.

“We don’t want state employees to be held hostage during this debate, so I have drafted an appropriations bill preventing a government shutdown and preventing state employee furloughs,” says Henry.

A budget bill also passed the Kansas House today (WED). If a budget is signed by the governor, even if tax negotiations are ongoing, that would be enough to prevent employee furloughs.
