A Kansas House committee used a procedural maneuver today (MON) to avoid an up-or-down vote on KanCare expansion. By a one-vote margin, the committee voted to table a bill that would have made an estimated 300,000 low-income Kansans eligible for KanCare, the state's privatized Medicaid program. The move angered supporters of the bill, like Representative Susan Concannon, a Beloit Republican.
The failure to move the bill out of committee and onto the House floor ahead of an approaching deadline means the expansion measure is likely dead for the remainder of the session.
